i watch dance moms faithfully each week because i love dance. the ladies on this show are entertaining dancers. we’ve all seen maddie rise to fame in her collection of sia videos. it was so cool seeing her move from a competitive dancer to become a professional dancer. but she’s not the reason i tune in each week. the real star is nia’s character. i’m so moved by her tenacity, resilience, compassion, and integrity.

over the years, i’ve grown to really respect nia sioux. her mom’s battles with abby are epic, and i’m constantly cringing at how abby talks to both holly and nia. why they continue to subject themselves to that foolishness is beyond me. abby lee miller is a bully. but the world is full of bullies and no matter what field you work in, you’re going to encounter them. knowing who you are and what you believe about yourself is absolutely imperative if you’re going to survive.
