Well Nourished Soul

monday motivational music: always sisters

this week as i thought about what kind of motivation i needed to kick things off right, i couldn’t help but smile. over the last few weeks, i have spent time with, or had the opportunity to celebrate, some of the most amazing women who have done some amazing things. when i think about the phrase “iron sharpens iron,” i think about the women in my life and i feel incredibly blessed to see all the ways they make me a better person.they are truly the iron that keeps me sharp.

No matter what may come or go
We stick together and it shows
This bond between us, foundation is trust
That’s what true family is all about

so, i wanted to send a little love to the sisterhood. what is the sisterhood you ask? it’s the largest population on the planet: women folk. i am a proud woman. i am an even prouder black woman. and i’m tremendously blessed by the amazing women who are part of my life: my mom, nieces, grandmother, aunts, cousins, friends, coworkers, mentors, sorors, classmates, and strangers who share my anatomy and all the joy and pain that entails. women are the greatest gift ever bestowed upon the planet. we are so valuable god needed to set an elaborate stage for our arrival. and yet, we don’t live into the fullness of what that means.

there are many issues that seem to keep us apart on a regular basis – moms vs. non-moms, career women vs. stay-at-home women, married women vs. single women, thin women vs. full-figured women, sorority women vs. non-sorority women, fit women vs. unfit women, long-haired women vs. short-haired women, and the list goes on and on. we are good at being divided. to quote my friend barbara, “there is a lot of pain in the sisterhood.”

Let’s be enriched with peace and love
Having compassion from above
Never forsaking, just understanding
Ain’t that what families are made of

pain is a necessary part of life. in fact, we get that fantastic reminder each month when our bodies transform us into fertile ground from which life springs forth. i’ll be honest, i could do without that little monthly transformation, but that’s another story for another day. with pain there is joy. lots and lots of joy. today, i want to say to all the women i know, i appreciate your grace, strength, wisdom, and presence in my life.

i hope you do something this week that honors your spirit and purpose; something that replenishes your depleted resources; something that leads you to dream again; something that reminds you just how powerful and strong you are; something that encourages the women in your life to strive for excellence; something that restores your joy.

i dedicate this week’s monday motivational music song to the sisterhood!

lyrics:

Always sisters, always friends
Let’s stay real close till the end
Forgiving each other, letting love cover
Always sisters, always friends

We have to live in harmony
Even though we may disagree
‘Cause fighting each other is not the answer
Sharing the greatest gift, ooh

Let’s be enriched with peace and love
Having compassion from above
Never forsaking, just understanding
Ain’t that what families are made of

Always sisters, always friends

No matter what may come or go
We stick together and it shows
This bond between us, foundation is trust
That’s what true family is all about

Always sisters, always friends
Let’s stay real close till the end
Forgiving each other, letting love cover
Always sisters, always friends

We really gotta learn, we gotta learn to love each other
I need to stick real close by your side
There’s no way that we can live without each other
So why do we try, why do we try?

Always sisters, always friends
Let’s stay real close till the end
Forgiving each other, letting love cover
Always sisters, always friends
Always sisters, always friends

Forever and always
You know, I’m gonna be with you, always
Forever and always
No matter what you’re going through, always
